Family Portrait Season


In celebrating its 20th anniversary, PPA Charities has taken a tried and true program and put a few new spins on it. Family Portrait Month has become Family Portrait Season, allowing PPA members to join in to promote this most profitable segment of their business at the time that fits best for them. And better yet, there is no registration fee, allowing more PPA members to participate and determine their own level of giving.

So whether you want to promote family portraits in July or October, it’s up to you! You just need to decide what your business is willing to donate per session and set your goals! Studios will be recognized on our consumer website (and on immediately upon registration as a participating studio. Then once you begin sending in your donations, studios will be recognized by the level of their giving. Raise $250 and be a PPA Charities Gold Member, donate $5000 and you become a PPA Charities Diamond Studio. You will also be sent a specially designed “badge” to use on your website or social media to tell the public of your achievement.

Once registered, you will receive a link to our online Marketing Guide and be listed on our Family Portrait Season consumer site. You will also be invited to join our private Facebook group just for registrants where you can exchange ideas on how other members run their program. You may decide to donate $50 per session while another donates 10% of their sales and still another bases it off of sales of specific products. But in the end, you join a community of charitable photographers who are helping others while providing a valuable product to your customers.

And if that isn’t enough, our marketing partner, Marathon Press, will send you a gift certificate for your first set of marketing pieces. Then look over their entire catalog to find the promotional pieces that are just right for your business. And remember, as an exclusive benefit to PPA members, it puts you above the crowd in the eye of customers when they are looking for a new family portrait.

What is Family Portrait Season?

Family Portrait Season provides PPA-member studios with an annual, high-profile opportunity for participation in a nationwide, charity-driven promotion that benefits our charitable partners and elevates the business image of participating studios.

Family Portrait Season gives you an opportunity to build business profits and goodwill through this nationwide charity-driven promotion.

How do I market Family Portrait Season in my studio?

Once you have registered your studio as a participant and your $30 minimum donation to PPA Charities is paid, your business will benefit as follows:

  • Your studio information will be listed on the “Participating Studios” page of, PPACH’s consumer website.
    (This site is currently active but will be changed to shortly)
  • You can download a Family Portrait Season Marketing Guide, written resources, and promotional downloads. On this website you will also find real-world information on how different photographers have used Family Portrait Month in their own marketing programs. These online resources are for your inspiration and use.
  • Please check this site often to learn about additional promotional ideas and news items. You can subscribe to our RSS feed in the sidebar of our “News” blog so that you can be notified whenever new items are posted.
  • You also will receive PPA Charities and Family Portrait Season news through a periodic PPACH newsletter and email blasts.

How can I participate?

Any PPA-member studio can participate in this promotion by doing the following:

  • Make a minimum donation of $30 to PPA Charities (an annual donation, payable each year that you choose to participate in the promotion). Once registered as a participant (and your $30 minimum donation to PPA Charities is processed), You will receive an e-mail that provides password-protected access to marketing tips, written resources, and downloads.
  • You are asked to donate at least $30 to PPA Charities for each family portrait session occurring during October. Otherwise, you are free to decide how much to contribute — an entire session fee, part of a session fee, a percentage of each sale, or a specified amount of $30 or more.
  • The marketing content in this section includes ideas and examples of information that has worked for others, which you are free to use.
  • If you prefer, you can make a personal donation to PPA Charities.
